It was reported yesterday that the U.S. economy unexpectedly contracted in the first quarter as the gross domestic product fell at a 1.4% annualized rate.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) dismissed it as an “aberration” today at a press conference and that she doesn’t believer it will affect midterms.
A reporter prefaced his question by noting, “(The thing that) a lot of American people are dealing with is the economy and we just got the latest numbers showing that it did give slightly.”
“Is this going to have any effect on the 2022 election come November, the midterms?” he asked after Pelosi wiped her nose with a tissue.
Pelosi responded, “Well I think this is an aberration, there are plenty of other statistics and analysis that had said this is an aberration and there are many other factors that show that we have growth in our near future.”
“But what we’re worried about is what it means to the kitchen table, again, not to the election, but to the kitchen table of America’s working families,” Pelosi insisted.
Pelosi then claimed that “8 million jobs” were created under Biden’s “leadership” in one year which cut unemployment in half and raised wages.
“Again, when that happens, inflation goes up,” Pelosi then suggested.
Reuters was one of many news outlets who attempted to provide cover for the administration as they said the shrinking occured “amid a resurgence in COVID-19 cases and drop in pandemic relief money from the government, but the decline in output is misleading as domestic demand remained strong.”
