NASCAR Wishes Fans a ‘Happy Pride Month’ and ‘Acknowledges’ That Recent Actions Don’t Line Up With Its Mission to Be a ‘Welcoming Sport For All’

NASCAR today wished its fans a “Happy Pride Month” and “acknowledged” that recent actions don’t line up with their mission to be a “welcoming sport for all.”

While the organization did not directly address what those recent actions were, some speculated that it could be connected to Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott’s appearance as the “honorary” starter for the May 22 All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway.

The possible “mistake” of inviting Abbott could be in relation to his February directive for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate parents who get their transgender children gender-affirming medical care, according to Fox 8 Greensboro.

NASCAR declared in the tweet, “As we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, we acknowledge that recent actions have not aligned with NASCAR’s mission to be a welcoming sport for all.”

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to create a more inclusive environment — in our workplaces, at the race track & in the stands,” the organization added.

Also included in the tweet was a rainbow flag along with a transgender flag in a picture that also said, “Happy Pride Month.”

Ron DeSantis’ press secretary Christina Pushaw responded, “Wow, that is a SUPER woke version of the Pride flag you have going on there.”

“I must admit I am not familiar with the meaning of the purple circle on the end,” Pushaw added.

NASCAR claims to be welcoming, however, nearly two years ago, it banned the display of the Confederate flag at all of its events and properties.

After the “Let’s Go Brandon” chant originated with NASCAR, the organization’s President Steve Phelps claimed that it is not associated with politics “on the left or the right.”
