The NHS in the UK is rolling out new rules against ‘racism’ and ‘sexism’ and their tolerance is so hardcore that they could possibly deny treatment to you if they deem you to be in one of those categories. Concern was raised earlier today by Fox News’ Dana Perino that this might include people who say the ‘wrong’ things because of mental disorders.
Not to mention the question of who gets to decide what defines these things. Regardless, denial of healthcare for someone’s words is certainly not something that anyone should be allowed to do in most people’s reasonable opinion.
The question is, how will this be implemented, and will it come to other countries or the United States? In our ‘woke’ culture, it is tough to rule anything out these days. Racism and sexism isn’t a good thing, that’s for sure. But whether or not someone lives or dies falls under a whole different category of culture that transcends that.
Currently, staff is now allowed to refuse non-critical patients who are verbally aggressive or physically violent towards them. The new protections will extend to any kind of harassment, bullying, discrimination, including homophobic remarks, sexist or racist remarks. News.sky.com reported:
Health Secretary Matt Hancock wrote to all NHS staff on Tuesday to announce stronger measures to investigate abuse and harassment towards staff, saying “no act of violence or abuse is minor”.
“Being assaulted or abused is not part of the job,” he said.
“Far too often I hear stories that the people you are trying to help lash out. I’ve seen it for myself in A&Es, on night shifts, and on ambulances.”
Mr Hancock said he was “horrified that any member of the public would abuse or physically assault a member of our NHS staff but it happens too often”.
Sound off in the Facebook comments plugin below, do you agree with this, should it come to the U.S., or is it completely outrageous?
