New Jersey State Senate Race Called for Dems Retracted as Truck Driver Edward Durr Could Pull Upset

It’s tough to say who could win this New Jersey State Senate Race. Initially, it was called for the Senate President, Steve Sweeney, and the New Jersey Globe had to retract their call as it was too close. The Globe had to report:

Update: This race call was retracted at 1:11 a.m., after it became clear all three Democrats stood a strong chance of losing. David Wildstein tweeted:

“This looks like an upset in the making: Senate President Steve Sweeney is trailing by 1,880 votes — to a Republican named Edward Durr. This race is now too close to call.”

Durr is a truck driver who spent less than $200 on this race and could beat the Senate President. This race isn’t called. We will update this story with whoever wins later.

Update: it looks like Democrat Steve Sweeney still has a shot at winning as Durr now says he’s not sure, but results are still unclear:

“In his first interview after what may turn out to be the biggest upset ever in South Jersey political history, ⁦@GOP⁩ NJ State Senate candidate Ed Burr says he was told he beat ⁦@NJSenatePres⁩ Steve Sweeney at 2am then woke up to “well maybe not””
