‘Non-Woke’ Top Gun 2 Becomes This Year’s Highest-Grossing Film in the U.S. After Topping $400M

“Non-woke” Top Gun 2 has become the highest-grossing film in the U.S. after topping $400 million at the domestic box office.

It was reported yesterday that with $401.8 million in North American ticket sales, the “Top Gun” sequel has surpassed “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” ($398 million) to claim the No. 1 spot.

Since the COVID pandemic began in March 2020, it’s only the second movie (“Spider-Man: No Way Home” was the first) to cross $400 million in domestic sales.

“Top Gun: Maverick” has also earned $362 million internationally, which takes its global haul to a massive $783.8 million.

Even by pre-COVID standards, “Top Gun: Maverick” is smashing box office expectations, Variety noted.

Industry analysts predict that the movie will at least cross $900 million by the end of its theatrical run and could even surpass the coveted $1 billion mark as ticket sales have stayed strong in recent weeks.

Variety reported that “Top Gun: Maverick” already stands as Cruise’s highest-grossing film in North America, but it’s close to becoming his biggest movie at the global box office.

Cruise’s current highest-grossing film, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” collected $791 million worldwide in 2018.

Elon Musk tweeted today that he is looking forward to seeing Top Gun 2 after rewatching the original.

“Original Top Gun is a great movie. Just rewatched. Looking forward to seeing the sequel,” Musk declared.
