Three weeks after Oregon Governor Kate Brown blamed federal officers for violence in Portland, the chaos continues, and she continues to push blame on others and deny help from President Trump.
The riots and chaos have continued for over 90 days and have included rioters going into residential neighborhoods and harassing innocent families and businesses alike. The chaos began with the police-involved death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and some have speculated that Covid-19 has fanned the flames, in addition to other police-involved encounters.
It seems that the rioters have had no interest in each individual situation and whether or not any of them are justified, in our view. There seems to be a larger political power grab at play here that needs to be curtailed if Americans want to be able to feel safe in their homes at night. Yesterday Governor Brown responded to Trump’s call to bring in the National Guard.
“Oregon isn’t interested in a role in your political theater, @realDonaldTrump. The @OregonGuard is focused on fighting wildfires, distributing PPE & helping with unemployment calls. I’d love to discuss what we actually need: financial resources, N-95 masks & testing supplies.”

Of course Brown’s very next tweet was a call practically begging rioters and looters to stop. Seems like this shouldn’t be political, but who is really making it that way?
“Let me be clear: It’s time for the violence and vandalism to end so Portland can focus on the important work to be done to achieve real change for racial justice. Those who have committed acts of violence will be held accountable. We must work together to deescalate the potential for confrontation, by continuing to foster community conversations and utilizing trained law enforcement officers to keep the peace and protect free speech, not soldiers.”

President Trump just announced he is sending federal assistance to Kenosha, Wisconsin, where rioting is also unfolding. He reiterated that Oregon should follow suit.
“We will NOT stand for looting, arson, violence, and lawlessness on American streets. My team just got off the phone with Governor Evers who agreed to accept federal assistance (Portland should do the same!)…
…TODAY, I will be sending federal law enforcement and the National Guard to Kenosha, WI to restore LAW and ORDER!” See tweet:

Will the chaos end? Will it affect the November elections? Have people had enough? Time will tell. Police brutality is not ok but clearly we are far beyond that here with this apparent radical communist power grab.
