Legendary actor James Caan, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in “The Godfather,” has passed away at 82 years old.
Caan’s passing was announced in a tweet on his account that said, “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6.”
“The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time,” the tweet continued.
The tweet then concluded with a phrase that Caan used in his tweets that said, “End of tweet.”

Caan also starred in other movies including “Misery, Thief, Brian’s Song, Rollerball, Hide in Plain Sight, The Gambler, El Dorado, Funny Lady, Elf.”
Fox Nation “Uncensored” host Piers Morgan said in a tweet about Caan, “Brilliant actor – loved him as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather, such a ferocious, menacing, magnificent performance.”
“Met him once at a party in LA and he was a very funny & highly entertaining man. Sad news,” Morgan added.

Comedian Adam Sandler also offered his condolences in a tweet where he said, “James Caan. Loved him very much. Always wanted to be like him. So happy I got to know him.”
“Never ever stopped laughing when I was around that man. His movies were best of the best. We all will miss him terribly. Thinking of his family and sending my love,” Sandler stated.
