Fox News’ Peter Doocy continued to be a thorn in White House press secretary Jen Psaki’s side as he grilled her today and asked why hasn’t President Biden said that “The United States does not negotiate with terrorists.”
The exchange began with Doocy referencing an exchange that occurred at the end of an event earlier in the afternoon.
NBC’s Peter Alexander asked Biden, “What will you do if Americans are still there after the deadline?”
Biden jokingly responded to Alexander, “You’ll be the first person I call,” although it appears that the audio was cut from the White House feed.

Doocy asked Psaki, “At the tail end of the president’s remarks, he was asked about Afghanistan. He made a joke. So what’s so funny?”
Psaki then did her best to provide cover for Biden and responded, “Well, I think the question he was asked … was about when he will provide information about a decision on August 31.”
“I think what he conveyed is that — well, what I can convey from here, I should say, is that as he stated yesterday … is we’re on track to complete our mission by August 31. Obviously, there are discussions, and the president received a briefing just this morning,” Psaki added.
After further explanation, Doocy then moved onto the next question and stated, “As these negotiations about safe passage for Americans and SIV holders continue, why haven’t we heard the president say, ‘The United States does not negotiate with terrorists’?”
Doocy wondered, “Is that still the U.S. policy?”
“Well of course it is Peter, but I would also say that there is a reality, that the Taliban is controlling large swaths of Afghanistan,” Psaki replied.

Recently, a security alert by the U.S. Embassy urged Americans at Kabul airport gates in Afghanistan to “leave immediately.”

Democrats have been touting the fact that no Americans have been killed thus far since the Taliban takeover last week but it is clear that the situation is rapidly deteriorating and Biden needs to take control before it is too late.
