Fox News’ Peter Doocy today stumped White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre as he asked her a question about the continued high gas prices.
Doocy wondered, “What makes you think that [oil firms] are going to listen to an administration that is ultimately trying to put them out of business?”
Jean-Pierre then incredulously shot back, “How is the administration trying to put them out of business?”
“They produce fossil fuels. This president says he wants to end fossil fuels,” Doocy explained.
While Doocy was asking his question and then subsequent retort, Jean-Pierre was flipping through her notebook and after stumbling some, she ended up blaming the oil companies for taking in record profits.
Biden echoed those sentiments today as he implored oil companies to pass on the record profits to consumers.
However, even The Guardian backed up Doocy’s point as they noted that Biden has sought to move away from fossil fuels entirely with a commitment to zero emissions by 2050.
“My message to all companies is this: you’re sitting on record profits. And we’re giving you more certainty. You can act now to increase oil production. You should not be using your profits to buy back stock or for dividends – not while the war is raging,” Biden begged.
Biden also again blamed Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine for the global spike in oil prices and said his administration was doing all it could to keep prices in check.
