Roger Waters, who was born in the United Kingdom, but has political views about the world that don’t necessarily align with any party, is back in the news. Waters is known as someone who offends lots of people but generally has been thought of as a liberal. He has raged against former President Donald Trump.
He has railed against the Republican party for many things, including, in his view, being warmongers. He believes “the west” in general is corrupt and that many recent wars could have been prevented or stopped sooner.
We are quite confident Rogers is still not a Trump fan or conservative, although we have always wondered if Waters ever stopped to ask himself if Trump himself wasn’t necessarily as pro-war as other historical Republicans, or if he simply hated him because it was en vogue. However, media outlets are now accusing Waters of backing Russia for not supporting the current pro-Ukraine narrative.
However, it appears as though he supports people of all countries, outside of many “corrupt” governments in his view. In a long interview, he takes a shot at Rolling Stone magazine, which he claims calls him a legacy musician and doesn’t want to cover him much anymore.
He gets into it with Michael Smerconish, going against the grain on Ukraine, and even Taiwan. At one point, Waters talked about how many Russians died in World War 2 and not many people today acknowledge that.
Waters takes a shot at mainstream news saying “I believe whatever people who are neutral will tell me about what’s going on. Where can you find news, and don’t tell me you have proper news on CNN”.
On Rolling Stone, he said they won’t put out proper news anymore and that, “they won’t speak to me, oh because they don’t deal with legacy acts anymore”. He also hit out at Washington Post, New York Times, Fox, and “all that other crap that’s out there in the mainstream”.
Roger Waters is currently doing a tour called “This is not a Drill”. In the below interview he is asked why he depicted Joe Biden as a war criminal in his concert, and he speaks his mind about how feels Biden could have ended the war in Ukraine by now, in his view.
“I recognize your humanity, but I recognize the Russians and the Chinese, and the Ukrainians…” and Waters goes on to list many other countries. He appears to be trying to draw a distinction between the people of various nations and their governments.
At one point before asking about the Biden depiction at his concert, the interviewer asks Waters if he’s an “equal opportunity offender”.
