Fox News White House reporter Peter Doocy has a tough job as he is sometimes the only journalist in the room who is willing to ask White House press secretary Jen Psaki tough questions.
Today, Doocy asked Psaki a question relating to why the Texas House Democrats fleeing from the state to obstruct a vote on an election integrity bill that they didn’t support.
Doocy asked Psaki if she knew of “any examples of his 36 years in the Senate” when now-President Joe Biden had “just hopped on a train and left town to avoid a vote that he knew he was going to lose?”
Psaki smirked and told Doocy, “Welcome back,” as left-wing outlet Boing Boing put it: as if to say here we go again with your buffoonery. Her response receives hearty laughter, reminiscent of a 1950s laugh track, from the other reporters in the room.
“Look, I think that the President’s view is that these Texas legislators were making a statement through action in opposition to efforts in their state to oppose restrictions on people’s fundamental rights and their rights to vote in their state,” Psaki claimed.
Psaki added, “The president certainly applauds their actions and their outspoken opposition to efforts to put in place restrictive measures in their state.”
Doocy fired back, mentioning her initial response and stated, “Maybe that’s funny to think about it that way, but the president is talking about this as the most serious assault on Democracy.”
Psaki became somewhat flustered and interrupted Doocy as he was finishing the end of what he said and insisted, “I don’t think anything about this is funny.”
“I think what is important to note though here is that there are 28 states. including Texas, where there are laws in place or in process that make it harder to vote,” Psaki continued.
Psaki concluded by also defending the Texas Democrats and said, “It requires bold action, it requires bold voices to speak out against that and make sure people understand their rights, that’s exactly what’s happening.”
Liberals on Twitter felt that Psaki got the better of the exchange, as expected, as many shared a video of the clip from journalist Acyn and added their own commentary including “Aggressive progressive” verified user Chris Hahn who declared, “Never bring a Doocy to a Psaki fight.”
