As the situation continues to evolve with Twitter, a top lawyer for the social media platform who was behind the ban of the 45th President Donald Trump cried when discussing the company’s purchase by Elon Musk.
Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s head of legal, policy and trust, met virtually with employees she supervises in legal and policy on Monday to discuss the buy.
Sources say that Gadde cried while relaying concerns about changes to Twitter, but she said she was proud of the employees, and that they should continue to try to make a positive contribution to the company.
Gadde is an immigrant from India who has discussed in the past how experiences from her childhood have inspired her.
Meanwhile, high-profile liberal accounts have seen their follower numbers dwindle, including former President Barack Obama.
Obama, the most followed user on Twitter, lost more than 300,000 followers after Monday’s announcement.
Prior to that, Obama had gained followers every day in April.
On the other hand, conservatives are flocking to the platform with many high-profile conservative accounts gaining huge numbers of followers.
U.S. House Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), has upped the follower count on her government Twitter account (after her personal one was banned) by over 100,000 since the announcement.
As for Gadde, the attorney’s job involves deciding when content can be taken down, and she’s been referred to as Twitter’s “moral authority.”
Twitter employee Kennedy O’Brien tweeted after the apparent meeting, “If you look up the word ‘inspiring’ in the dictionary you find a picture of @vijaya.”
After O’Brien’s tweet was reported, one Twitter user replied, “I believe ‘retiring’ is the most appropriate word.”
I believe "retiring" is the most appropriate word.

O’Brien ultimately limited replies to the post after another suggested, “You’re fired!” instead.
And "You're fired!"
