Ricky Gervais’ Hollywood Slam Included Bash on Harvey Weinstein the Night Before His Trial Starts

PERSPECTIVE:

You’ve probably heard by now that last night, Ricky Gervais rocked Hollywood’s world at the Golden Globe awards, slamming Hollywood elites and corporate moguls for apparent hypocrisy. The roast, some would say was in good fun, others might think he went too far. Scott Whitlock, a conservative blue check Twitter pundit, made an interesting observation about Gervais’ appearing that was also previously touched on by Media Right News. In a tweet, Whitlock pointed out that he got in a jab on Harvey Weinstein in addition to all the other sore spots he hit Hollywood on.

“Everyone’s highlighting Ricky Gervais absolutely blistering Hollywood last night, but here’s him at the very end of the show, getting one last jab in on covering for Harvey Weinstein.” Check out the tweet below:

Indeed, Gervais’ hits were blistering, from his mentions of Ronan Farrow to implying that some would align themselves with ISIS if it meant lining their pockets with money, the monologue was no joking matter to some. According to MagaDailyReport:

He hit the big shots where it hurts as well:

“Apple roared into the TV game with The Morning Show, a super drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing, made by a company that runs sweatshops in China. You say you’re woke, but the companies you work for, it’s unbelievable—Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service, you’d call your agent.”

What’s interesting though, about his hit on Weinstein, is the timing. As reported by many sources on Twitter, today, (the day after Gervais’ blistering roast) is the beginning of the Harvey Weinstein trial for sexual assault accusations. Accusations that many believe were covered up for a long time by more than one Hollywood mogul. Amee Vanderpool on Twitter reports, “The criminal trial of Harvey Weinstein starts in NYC today-he’s been charged with sexually assaulting two women in 2006 and 2013 and more than 80 women have accused him of assault.” She goes on to tweet, “Here he is using a walker to appear feeble when arriving at court today.” See the tweet below:

The comment about Ronan Farrow as originally reported by Media Right News set up the later Weinstein hit:

Gervais made a joke about Ronan Farrow coming after the executives in the room. Farrow went after NBC executives highlighting the alleged cover-up the company did on different sexual misconduct reports. No executives were fired and NBC did respond by calling Farrow a terrorist. The pan of the audience during the joke showed an awkward grimace on Johnathan Pryce’s face.

The world will be watching the responses to Ricky’s stunning viral video and Weinstein’s trial as well. These types of things draw so much attention, not only because it relates to people in pop culture that are so well known to so many Americans and people around the world, but also because there is a double standard watch. Many “rank and file” citizens often accuse the elites of getting slaps on the wrist for what working-class people might get punished harder for because of lack of notoriety, connections, and money for the best lawyers known to man, that is, of course, just an opinion of the writer of this piece.

It’s hard to know exactly what Hollywood knew, and when, of the alleged sexual abuse of Harvey Weinstein over the years. But here’s a video from a few years back where Meryl Streep allegedly referred to Weinstein as “God”, and Madonna referred to him as “the punisher”. See video below:
