President Trump is having a rough run. Despite having approximately one million people sign up for his Tulsa, Oklahoma rally tonight, which the left is saying he shouldn’t have for fear of COVID-19 spread. Of course, protesting, rioting, and looting, isn’t something they seem to worry about spreading COVID-19, as shown by NYC Mayor Bill diBlasio’s order to not ask Coronavirus patients if they protested.
According to National Review, he said: “No person will be asked proactively if they attended a protest,” Avery Cohen, a spokesperson for de Blasio, told THE CITY about the directive. “If a person wants to proactively offer that information, there is an opportunity for them to do so.” President Trump has struggled to deal with civil unrest around the nation.
The campaign has been pushing to get a higher minority vote by bragging about low unemployment for just about every class there is including African Americans. All this is great, but when the protests are done in the name of racial justice, many of the protesters harbor much of their resentment towards President Trump in addition to the police around the nation.
President Trump doesn’t want to be too hard on the rioters and looters by sending in the U.S. Military for fear that he will be impeached again, so he has largely sat back and tweeted “LAW AND ORDER” more than a handful of times while letting the localities (many of them very poorly) handle the riots, looting and vandalism in the wake of the police-involved killing of George Floyd. This has dismayed many of both political sides. Some have claimed he’s done too much, others say he’s done too little.
Yesterday President Trump received more bad news. The Supreme Court of the United States decided not to allow him to rescind DACA or dreamer protections for the children of illegal aliens who came to the United States illegally. The Executive Order was done by former President Barack Obama.
Liberals did the dance of joy and claimed that the DACA folks were likely now able to stay permanently, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, arguably one of President Trump’s worst enemies in Congress, said he cried tears of joy. This morning President Trump is pushing back, saying that SCOTUS, although he’s furious with the decision, only punted, possibly for political reasons, and the White House will be filing better paperwork to try to get DACA rescinded yet again. While yesterday’s ruling certainly took much wind out of the Trump administration’s sails, it isn’t over yet. President Trump tweeted:
“The Supreme Court asked us to resubmit on DACA, nothing was lost or won. They “punted”, much like in a football game (where hopefully they would stand for our great American Flag). We will be submitting enhanced papers shortly in order to properly fulfill the Supreme Court’s ruling & request of yesterday. I have wanted to take care of DACA recipients better than the Do Nothing Democrats, but for two years they refused to negotiate – They have abandoned DACA. Based on the decision the Dems can’t make DACA citizens. They gained nothing!”

One thing gained by supporters of DACA though, is time, and public support in the court of public opinion. President Trump will likely not be sending these folks home, but rather use DACA as a bargaining chip to get other immigration reforms done if it does get rescinded.
Meanwhile, there’s no telling how long it will take the Supreme Court to respond to the new filing, and a presidential election is looming in the short term future. Can Donald Trump pull it together and reignite the 2016 ‘magic’? It’s tough to say for much of his base, but anything can happen.
