Fox News has reported that a Utah College is promoting porn to their students. When we searched the website ourselves we were able to find some of the wording using the college website’s search function, but it was hard to find it on the main page showing the courses.
It’s unclear if they have attempted to remove the course from the website or not, now that they have been scrutinized for this class.
The below screenshot comes up when searching certain terms on the Westminster College website:
From Fox News in part:
“Hard core pornography is as American as apple pie and more popular than Sunday night football. Our approach to this billion-dollar industry is as both a cultural phenomenon that reflects and reinforces sexual inequalities (but holds the potential to challenge sexual and gender norms) and as an art form that requires serious contemplation,” the course description states…
…A spokesperson for the college told Fox News Digital that it “occasionally offers elective courses like this as an opportunity to analyze social issues.”
“Westminster College occasionally offers elective courses like this as an opportunity to analyze social issues. As part of this analysis, Westminster College and universities across the county often examine potentially offensive topics like pornography to further understand their pervasiveness and impact. Descriptions of these courses, while alarming to some readers, help students decide if they wish to engage in serious investigation of controversial subjects,” the spokesperson said. “This course will help students learn how to think critically about the influence of digital media culture.”
With Utah being a relatively conservative state, we will have to stay tuned, to see if legislators or angry mothers step in and say enough is enough one way or another. In 2022 though, we have to say that we are somewhat shocked, but not totally surprised to see something like this.
Right-wingers can only hope that woke movements like this compel Christian conservatives to show up and vote to make the changes they’d like to see in the nation and especially in red states.
