Earlier today, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced that gyms, fitness centers, bowling alleys, beauty shops and salons, barbershops, body art studios, and more would be able to open Friday, April 24.
Kemp also said that movie theaters and restaurants, which were previously banned from in-person dining, would be allowed to reopen on Monday, April 27 with certain restrictions to be announced later this week.
This did not sit well with rumored Biden running mate Stacey Abrams, who said “Reopen? Dangerously incompetent.” She offered up statistics to defend those words including infection and testing rates and shared an article with cases and deaths for the state
Georgia: 14th highest infection/7th lowest testing rate; less econ resilient & 1000s of low-wage workers already forced to risk their lives to make a living. Weakened healthcare w/closed rural hospitals, no Medicaid expansion & a doctor shortage. Reopen? Dangerously incompetent. https://t.co/FFfk9EoN3l

Kemp defended his decision on Twitter in a pair of tweets saying they “have relied on data, science, and the advice of healthcare professionals to guide our approach and decision-making.” He believes they are doing their “best to protect lives – and livelihoods – in every part of Georgia.”
He is “confident that together, we will emerge victorious from this war.” He also spoke to the people and his trust in God by saying, “with your help & God’s grace, we will build a safer, stronger state for our families & generations to come.”

An opinion article released Friday claimed that “If Biden doesn’t pick Stacey Abrams, he can kiss Black folks goodbye.” The writer, Marcus Ferrell, said that “we might be watching a disaster in slow motion.”
Ferrell continued, “a white liberal politician who almost certainly secured the Democratic nomination — thanks to Black voters — is considering another white moderate as a running mate.”
