Texas Governor Greg Abbott Signs Executive Order Banning Vaccine Mandates Including for Private Companies

Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed an executive order on Monday banning vaccine mandates across the state.

“New: @GovAbbott issues an executive order banning vaccine mandates by any “entity,” including private businesses: https://gov.texas.gov/uploads/files/press/EO-GA-40_prohibiting_vaccine_mandates_legislative_action_IMAGE_10-11-2021.pdf… Abbott also adds the issue to the special session agenda: https://gov.texas.gov/uploads/files/press/MESSAGE_3rd_called_87th_adding_matters_to_call_IMAGE_10-11-21.pdf…#txlege

His executive order states, “No entity in Texas can compel receipt of a COVID-19 vaccine by any individual, including an employee or a consumer, who objects to such vaccination for any reason of personal conscience, based on a religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID-19. I hereby suspend all relevant statutes to the extent necessary to enforce this prohibition.

This order supersedes any contradictory orders in the state which may have come from left-wing cities or companies in the lone star state. Now Texans will not be forced to take the Covid-19 vaccine as they are protected via this order.

This comes as we previously reported, “Saturday, Southwest Airlines blamed bad weather and air traffic control (ATC) as the reasons they have had to cancel almost 2000 flights this weekend. As of yet, it seems no reports of other airlines having to cancel have been circulating. However, speculation has been growing that many pilots are on a “sickout” in protest of Southwest’s vaccine mandate.

Southwest tweeted, “ATC issues and disruptive weather have resulted in a high volume of cancellations throughout the weekend while we work to recover our operation. We appreciate your patience as we accommodate affected Customers, and Customer Service wait times are longer than usual.”

In a document shared by Reuters DC reporter David Shepardson released on October 4th, Southwest cites their contracts with the US military as the reason for their vaccination mandate. The document states the employees have until November 24th to submit their documentation. Employees who choose not to vaccinate needs to submit an accommodation form to be considered for exemption.

With no other airlines highlighting cancellations it seems to be weather and ATC appears to have singularly affected Southwest Airlines. As speculation grows, will Southwest share more information or hold to their original story?

We will have to see if any other Republican Governors follow suit as many workers are having to fend for themselves when it comes to vaccine mandates from their employers. Many on the right would say this is a win for those unvaccinated in Texas and want to maintain their body autonomy.
