In an interview with “Extra’s” Jenn Lahmers, Tim Allen blasted Disney’s new “Lightyear” movie, explaining that it has no connection to ‘Toy Story’ Buzz.
Lahmers began by telling Allen, “Fans are very upset that you are not Lightyear in this new Buzz Lightyear movie”
Allen jumped in before Lahmers could ask a question and told her, “I’ve stayed out of it because it has nothing to do… as I’ve said a long time ago, we talked about this many years ago, when it came up in one of the sessions, I said what a fun movie that would be.”
“But the brass that did the first four movies is not this, it’s a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies,” Allen pointed out.
Allen continued, “I thought it was a live-action when they said they’re doing a live-action, with you know, real humans, not an animated thing.”
“There’s really no ‘Toy Story’ Buzz without Woody. So I’m not sure what the idea… I’m a plot guy, it would seem to be a big adventure story, and as I see… it’s not a big adventure story. It’s a wonderful story, it just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy,” Allen noted.
Lahmers then chimed in, “It’s like a little too off the path.”
Allen concluded, “It has no relationship to Buzz. There’s just no connection, I wish there was a better connection.”
“Lightyear” has flopped so far in theaters and after opening to a disastrous $51 million, the Disney film earned just $17.7 million in its second weekend, which is a crash of 65 percent.
