Former U.S. House Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) spoke with Fox News’ Sandra Smith this afternoon. Gowdy was very sympathetic to the victims of the tragic Nashville shooting yesterday. Many believe the transgender shooter targeted Christians in particular.
The Nashville police chief said Audrey was thought to have previously gotten rid of guns that she used to own, but ultimately she kept and hid one. This is due to a history of documented mental health problems with Hale.
The biological woman was not ordered by a court to get rid of the guns however. Shortly after the chief told the nation this, Gowdy opined, giving various ideas of how he wants to keep kids safe in schools.
Surprisingly, the Republican suggested red flag gun confiscation laws. While the intent may be good, many conservatives have been concerned with government overreach with laws like that. See clip:
Gowdy has indicated possible support for red flag laws previously. Gowdy did not go into detail about the shooter’s transgender identity and possible targeting of the Christians at the school she used to attend.
Reports have indicated that the Tennessee attack was targeted even if specific individuals were not. Hale bought 7 guns legally according to the chief, three of which were used yesterday, in the latest update from the chief. Hale’s parents didn’t know she still had weapons after she sold one according to the chief.
