U.S. House Rep Liz Cheney (R-WY), who has turned on former President Donald Trump, been censured by her home GOP, and can barely muster up a dozen people to show up to a Zoom conference call, has aspirational plans for the future apparently. Cheney it seems, isn’t ruling out a possible run for president in 2024.
This is hilarious to us considering how she and Kinzinger in IL are basically running the dregs of what is left of the anti-Trump faction in the GOP. Although Donald Trump hasn’t officially announced a 2024 run, he recently told Sean Hannity on Fox News that it was a serious possibility, as we previously reported here. Trump told Hannity in part:
“First of all, it’s a long time. I got tremendous numbers, nobody’s ever gotten the numbers I got. No sitting president’s come even close. There’s more popularity now than there was the day before the election.” He went on:
“Because they see how bad things are at the border. They see what’s going on. They see that their guns are going to be gone. They see their taxes are going up. Regulations are going through the roof.”
Trump continued: “the jobs are going to be gone. Your energy independence is going to be gone. So I will say this. I am looking at it very seriously. Beyond seriously. From a legal standpoint, I can’t really talk about it yet, it’s a little too soon.”
Despite Trump’s 2020 loss, Trump still commands more popularity among GOP voters than anyone else, especially considering all the voter fraud allegations that were made during that controversial election. Even if Trump didn’t run, his endorsement goes a long way.
There would be a good chance someone like Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) might run if Trump doesn’t. Some have even speculated they may run together. This begs the question, what is Cheney thinking? Is she delusional, or is this just some fundraising gimmick? We can only speculate.
The New York Post reported earlier in part:
“I’m not ruling anything in or out — I’ve been here a long time,” she told The Post when asked if she would ever consider running in the future.
The Wyoming Republican — who has been a frequent target of former President Donald Trump — said there are a number of contenders she sees as having potential for the 2024 nomination, adding that she believes the lawmakers who led the efforts on challenging the election on Jan. 6 should be out of the running.
“I think we have a huge number of interesting candidates, but I think that we’re going to be in a good position to be able to take the White House. I do think that some of our candidates who led the charge, particularly the senators who led the unconstitutional charge, not to certify the election, you know, in my view that’s disqualifying,” she said.
“I think that adherence to the Constitution, adherence to your oath has got to be at the top of the list. So, I think, you know that certainly will be a factor that I’m looking at and I think a number of voters will be looking at as they decide about ’24.”
Time will tell what happens in 2022 and 2024. Meanwhile, many Americans are just hoping President Biden doesn’t leave us in total ruins before those important dates.
Update: yes Liz Cheney is delusional:
