Vandals Topple Century Old George Washington Statue in Portland, Burn American Flags

A statue of George Washington that had stood for a century was toppled and defaced by a group of vandals last night. The group also wrapped the statue’s head in an American flag and lit the flag on fire. They then laid another flag on top of the fallen statue and set that one on fire.

This marked the 22nd straight night of demonstrations in the city over the death of George Floyd after a Minneapolis Police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

A statue of Thomas Jefferson at the school was vandalized earlier this week. This makes two statues of U.S. Presidents that have been vandalized during protests in the city.
