With the recent sexual assault accusations by Tara Reade against the presumed Democrat nominee for president Joe Biden, Democrat women Senators are being asked if they still support his bid.
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D) told reporters yesterday that she found his denial of the allegations “credible” and “convincing.” “I believe that everyone has a right to tell her story, to be listened to, and treated with respect,” Warren said.
In 2018, she called the Republican push to move forward with Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation “fundamentally wrong.” Warren stood alongside accuser Christine Blasey Ford’s supporters, saying she was there “with people of conscience who believe that when a woman comes forward that she has a right to be listened to, and there needs to be a full investigation.”
She continued, “The fact that Republicans want to go forward treating this woman and other women who have come forward as if their claims don’t matter is an insult to every single woman in this country.”
When asked about whether an independent investigation into Reade’s claims, something a couple other Democratic senators have endorsed, is needed, Warren said: “I think what the vice president has said is convincing, and I support him.”
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D) said last week that she “stands by Vice President Biden. He has devoted his life to supporting women, and he has vehemently denied this allegation.”
In regards to Kavanaugh two years ago, she said, “Enough is enough. One credible sexual assault claim should have been too many to get a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court and make decisions that will affect millions of women’s lives for generations.”
