A bill sponsored by Arizona State Sen. Wendy Rogers (R) that protects gun stores and manufacturers from civil liability was signed into law today.
The text of the legislation says that it “Prohibits a person from commencing outlined civil liability actions against a manufacturer or seller of firearms or a trade association that meets specified criteria.”
Additionally, it “Deems a store that sells firearms, ammunition or components of either an essential business and protects such a business from a qualified civil liability action.”
Rogers said in a tweet, “Thank you, Governor @dougducey and my Senate and House colleagues, for helping to protect our gun stores and gun manufacturers! Another campaign promise fulfilled!”
Previously we reported in part:
Freshman State Senator Wendy Rogers (R-AZ) and the majority of the Arizona State Senate Republicans passed Senate Bill 1382 which says firearms/ammunition manufacturers and businesses are essential and can’t be liable. Rogers described the bill.
“Just voted for my bill, SB1382, which declares firearms/ammunition manufacturers and businesses to be essential and also protects them from liability. The bill passed the Arizona Senate 16-14. Thank you to my colleagues in the House and Senate for getting this done!”
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey (R), who has often drawn the ire of conservatives, tweeted about his approval of the measure in a three-part tweet where he said, “With efforts currently underway in Washington to erode Second Amendment rights, I signed #SB1382 today to protect those rights in Arizona.”
“In Arizona, we’re safeguarding manufacturers, sellers and trade associations. Bad actors need to be held accountable, and we will work to make sure they are,” Ducey continued.

Ducey then thanked Rogers and State Rep Quang Nguyen (R) who added an amendment to the bill when it passed the House.
“But we’re not going to allow lawsuit after lawsuit to slowly tear down the Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens in our state. SB 1382 achieves this goal, and I’m grateful to Rep. @QuangNguyenAZ and Sen. @WendyRogersAZ for leading on this important legislation,” Ducey concluded.
Nguyen thanked Ducey for his tweet and Rogers as well in a tweet where he said, “Thank Gov @dougducey for protecting our 2A industry by signing SB1382 today. Arizona and our right to keep and bear arms is protected. Thank you Sen @WendyRogersAZ.”
