During an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that aired last night, President Biden urged would-be migrants to stay home amid the influx of activity along the Southern border that has prompted mounting criticism of his immigration policies.
At one point during the interview, Stephanopoulos asked Biden, “Do you have to say quite clearly, ‘Don’t come’?”
“I can say quite clearly: Don’t come over. What we’re in the process of getting set up, and it’s not going to take a whole long time, is to be able to apply for asylum in place. So, don’t leave your town or city or community. We’re going to make sure we have facilities in those cities and towns… to say you can apply for asylum from where you are right now,” Biden replied.

As Newsweek reported, there has been a significant increase in the number of migrants attempting to cross the border since Biden took office on January 20, with Republicans blaming the president for rolling back the hardline immigration policies of former President Trump and the surge has included a large number of unaccompanied minors, which has also prompted criticism from Democrats due to the temporary detainment of the children.
The surge has also potentially included terrorists, as we reported yesterday.
Stephanopoulos also asked Biden if it was “a mistake not to anticipate this surge?”
“First of all, there was a surge in the last two years. In ’19 and ’20, there was a surge, as well,” Biden insisted.
Stephanopoulos interjected, “This one might be worse,” to which Biden retorted, “Well, it could be.”
“The idea that Joe Biden said, ‘Come’ — because I heard the other day that they’re coming because they know I’m a nice guy… Here’s the deal, they’re not,” Biden responded.
Former ICE director Tom Homan reputed the assertion that there was a surge in recent years in a recent interview, however, that we also reported on yesterday where he said, “In 2020, the alien children numbers were down 70% from the year prior. Illegal immigration was down 50-80% depending on what month you looked at.”
“Last month, Joe Biden’s policy created a 300% increase in alien children,” Homan added.
