CNN has canceled former Republican Senator and Presidential candidate Rick Santorum for stating how European immigrants former America as a nation during a speech last month.
“We birthed a nation from nothing, Yes, there were Native Americans, but there isn’t much Native American culture in American culture,” Santorum said at the time.
Santorum was a senior political commentator at CNN who was one of the few Republican points of views on the network and was often tasked with campaign coverage.
Many on the left jumped on the comments as being disparaging about Native American culture, rather than simply explaining how the nation was formed.
Wajahat Ali asked in a Daily Beast op-ed earlier this month, “What will it take for CNN to fire Rick Santorum, and why do double standards appear to persist that protect white conservative men in cable news but not their colleagues of color?”
Ali, a former CNN commentator himself complained that the media has an affirmative action policy for right-wing pundits, as they continue to complain about “cancel culture” while being paid and given a prestigious platform by “fake news.”
NewsBuster’s Scott Whitlock called out “Hypocritical CNN” over the firing and wondered why they are “Still Refusing to Punish Chris Cuomo.”
