Donald Trump Dooms Mitch McConnell, Officially Proposes Rick Scott Take Over as Senate Leader if GOP Retakes Majority

We previously reported that U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) was purportedly making moves to potentially be the next senator majority leader.

With Sen Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) apparently non-committal to an agenda if Republicans retake the majority in 2022, U.S. Sen Rick Scott (R-FL) released a plan of his own yesterday.

The sweeping 11-point plan chock-full of 128 specific policy ideas could serve as an agenda for Senate Republicans if they win back the chamber’s majority in November’s midterm elections.

Completing the southern border wall and naming it after the 45th President Donald Trump, declaring “there are two genders,” ending any reference to ethnicity on government forms and limiting most federal government workers, including members of Congress, to 12 years of service are among the ambitious platform’s aims.

The blueprint is titled “My Plan to Rescue America” and is based on Scott’s years as a health care industry corporate executive, his eight years as governor of Florida, and his current tenure in the Senate.

Now, it seems 45th President Donald John Trump may be getting on board when it comes to officially supporting the idea, as it was more in its speculative phase before. Breitbart reported that Donald Trump said at Mar-a-Lago this week: “You should run for Senate majority leader”.

Rick Scott has taken the statesman route, not attacking McConnell, but not turning down Donald Trump’s idea. It seems Scott would likely be on board with this and is making serious moves. As Scott said, “My only focus is on winning.”

In other words, the GOP needs to first manage to take back power in 2022 (and preferably 2024, for Trump). It’s a lofty ask to do all that and even loftier to be planning now for what may not actually happen. But, the Democrats are not doing so well.

Although Joe Biden is likely to get a SCOTUS pick of his own, it will not affect the power balance. That is the only thing going for the Democrats right now. Otherwise, most Americans are not thrilled with Biden’s response to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, Covid, the economy, and his overall job running the nation at this point according to many polls.

Kamala Harris is not doing any better. Even if something were to happen to Biden as he is aging and many question his mental stamina, Harris would not be very popular to run in 2024 in our view. Many have speculated that Biden could pick someone to replace Harris to attempt to buoy his popularity, but he has pledged not to do that.

The moral of the story here in our view is that although the GOP and Donald Trump have many hoops to go through to get to where they want, there is a green light for them to make a noble effort unless things get better for Biden.

Although Joe Biden and many left-leaning fact-checkers say it’s not his fault that there is rampant inflation and high gas prices, many appear to be blaming him anyway based on polling. It’s a political fact that when someone is president they often get blamed for what’s bad or credit for the good regardless of whether or not they had anything to do with it in American politics.

Time will tell what happens with Rick Scott, but we assume he’s quietly allying with Donald Trump in a bigger and bigger way as they are both based in Florida, a formerly swing state, that Republicans are trying to make into a solid red state and staging zone for political organizing and planning.

Breitbart also reported on the situation in more depth in part:

Trump’s encouragement of Scott opposing McConnell for GOP Senate leader comes as McConnell has braced himself against America First Republicans who oppose renewing his Senate leadership position.

Missouri candidate Eric Greitens and Trump-backed Alaskan candidate Kelly Tshibaka have both announced they would not support McConnell for GOP leader if they win in November. In response, McConnell told CNN in January that he will wait to “see what happens” after the midterms before crowning himself leader.

Throughout McConnell’s leadership, illegal immigration has flourished, the national debt has grown by nearly $20 billion, and real wages for American workers have remained stagnant since the 1970s. Obamacare was enacted in 2010. Big financial institutions were bailed out in 2008, and social media companies have “disappeared” individuals without repercussions. Dr. Anthony Fauci remains unaccountable for allegedly lying twice to Congress.

“How this guy can stay as Leader is beyond comprehension—this is coming not only from me, but from virtually everyone in the Republican Party,” Trump wrote in December. “He is a disaster and should be replaced as ‘Leader’ ASAP!”
