We reported last week that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced plans to resume construction on the southern border wall amidst a push from one of his gubernatorial primary opponents, Don Huffines.
Yesterday, he detailed those plans, which he said will include a $250M down payment.
In a tweet, Abbott shared a “Border Crisis Update” and said that “Due to Biden’s open border policies, I just announced Texas’ plan to continue securing the border & build the wall.”
Outlining the plans, Abbott released a list which detailed, “Here’s how: Down payment of $250M, Hire project manager & contractors, Begin construction, Demand Biden return TX land to TX.”

Abbott asked for donations in the “Border Crisis update” and also declared that “While securing the border is the federal government’s responsibility, Texas will not sit idly by as this crisis grows. Texas is responding with the most robust and comprehensive border plan the nation has ever seen.”
Explaining the need for the action, Abbott added, “Open-border policies have led to a humanitarian crisis at our southern border as record levels of illegal immigrants, drugs, and contraband pour into Texas. The State of Texas is working collaboratively with communities impacted by the border crisis to arrest and detain individuals coming into Texas illegally. Our efforts will only be effective if we work together to secure the border, make criminal arrests, protect landowners, rid our communities of dangerous drugs, and provide Texans with the support they need and deserve.”
In a press release, Abbott announced that he had held a press conference in Austin yesterday where he announced several key components of the State of Texas’ plan to build a border wall and that the press conference follows the Governor’s Border Security Summit last week in Del Rio, which brought together law enforcement, city and county officials, and landowners to discuss strategies to secure the border and keep communities safe.
Abbott tweeted about the press release and echoed the words from the “Border Crisis update” and stated, “Texas is doing more than any state has ever done to protect the border. In the Biden Administration’s absence, Texas is stepping up to get the job done by building the border wall.”

Republican State Senator and candidate for Secretary of State of Arizona Michelle Ugenti-RITA commented on the news and suggested that “AZ has the opportunity & the money to do something abt the crisis at the border.”
“This is an issue for special session I can get behind. Let’s deliver 4 the people of AZ what we as politicians say we want & the public deserves…a secure border! Time 2 put our $ where our mouth is,” Ugenti-RITA insisted.
