Joe Biden Introduces Slew of New Gun Control Measures Amid Recent Shootings and With Mid-Terms Looming

Today, Joe Biden made the official announcement on the Department of Justice’s newly issued final rule to “rein in the proliferation of ghost guns.”

The newly finalized rule will ban the sale of unserialized “buy built shoot kits” in-store or online. The rule clarifies that the kids are now classified as a “firearm” under the Gun Control Act and thus placing them under the same regulations as all other firearms. This will push commercial sellers of the kits to become federally licensed and require federal background checks prior to sale.

Another portion of this law will require any homemade guns sold to pawnbrokers or any other federally licensed dealer to serialize the previously blank firearm, this would include gun kits as well as those that are 3D printed.

This announcement comes a little more than a month after the passage of H.R 2471, the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2022. As we reported last month the spending bill included “National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Denial Notification Act. The NICS is the system intended to prevent individuals barred from owning firearms from purchasing firearms from a federal firearms licensee (FFL).”

U.S. Sen Mike Crapo (R-ID) wrote, “I agree that requiring local law enforcement to be notified of every failed NICS check, even when those denials occur in error, could result in undue legal burdens on law-abiding gun owners and FFLs. Further, it raises questions about enforcement, as Idaho law prevents Idaho law enforcement from enforcing federal gun control measures that violate the Idaho Constitution. For these reasons, I voted against H.R. 2471. Legislation to fund the government should not be a vehicle to sneak gun control into law.”

The NRA is seemingly absent from bringing awareness to either of the issues that have just changed the way our federal government handles firearms. Many believe The NRA hasn’t been taking strong stances on protecting the Second Amendment. In some cases making concessions, the people they claim to represent aren’t happy with.

Biden also announced his nominee to lead the ATF, David Chipman. Chipman has worked as a senior adviser to Everytown for Gun Safety as well as Giffords.

In a statement, Biden called on Congress to deliver funding for his strategy to reduce gun crime in their 2023 budget.

“Congress needs to do its job by passing this budget and other essential legislation to reduce gun crime, including legislation to require background checks for all gun sales, ensure that no terrorist can buy a weapon in the United States, ban the sale and possession of unserialized firearms — ghost guns, ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and repeal gun manufacturers’ protection from liability,” the statement read

It appears Biden will be pushing forward on dismantling as much of the Second Amendment as he can.
