According to a Harvard CAPS–Harris Poll survey that was shared exclusively with The Hill, 71 percent of respondents polled do not think Joe Biden should run for President again in 2024, compared to just 29 percent who say he should run.
Of those who believe the president should not run, 45 percent said Biden should not seek a second term because he is a bad president, while about 33 percent of respondents said he is too old and about 25 percent said because it is time for a change.
Mark Penn, the co-director of the Harvard CAPS–Harris Poll survey, pointed out that while “Biden may want to run again,” it appears “the voters say ‘no’ to the idea of a second term, panning the job he is doing as president.”
“Only 30 percent of Democrats would even vote for him in a Democratic presidential primary,” Penn pointed out.
As we previously reported, another recent poll found that former President Donald Trump seems to have the lead over Biden if the pair were to go head to head in 2024.
According to that poll, Trump leads Biden 44 percent to 39 percent, with the other 12 percent saying they would vote for someone else.
In the recent survey, 61 percent also say Trump should not run for the White House in 2024, while 39 percent of respondents said he should run again.
Thirty-six percent of those who said they didn’t want Trump to run again said that he was erratic, 33 percent said he would divide the country, and 30 percent claimed he was responsible for Jan. 6.
In what appeared to be a much higher number than the other poll, a majority said they would consider a moderate independent candidate should Biden and Trump both be their party’s nominees in 2024, including majorities of both Republicans and Democrats polled.
