North Carolina Town Pushes ‘Reparations for Black Asheville’ Resolution

The far-left state of California is not the only region in the United States taking the idea of ‘reparations’ for African Americans seriously anymore. As we previously reported:

California Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, a Democrat from San Diego and Legislative Black Caucus head, wrote a bill that passed yesterday to establish a task force to study and prepare recommendations for how to give reparations to African Americans.

Well, it looks like a left-leaning city in an arguably red or at least swing state, Asheville, North Carolina, is taking California’s lead. City council member Keith Young spoke in length about what he feels should be done in WLOS video here, discussing a resolution that is expected to get voted on soon. The resolution can be read below in full, and is titled: “RESOLUTION SUPPORTING COMMUNITY REPARATIONS FOR BLACK ASHEVILLE”.

The resolution mentions that the author believes Black People have been unjustly enslaved, segregated, incarcerated, and denied housing through ‘racist practices’ in the private realty market… to start out, and the continues on with a much longer list of alleged grievances.

Towards the end it says that the goal of the resolution is to seek to “establish within the next year, a new commission empowered to make short, medium and long term recommendations that will make significant progress toward repairing the damage caused by public and private systemic Racism…” in part. It calls on the city manager to give a bi-annual update, ‘at minimum’, to the city council on the progress of work performed pursuant to this resolution.

In the video by WLOS linked above, Keith Young mentions that he doesn’t just want money moved around that could be undone by future city councils. See the entire resolution below:

Time will tell if other cities and/or states will run with this and propose their own similar resolutions. Many city council members will likely feel pressure to agree with something like this as first off, it is somewhat vague, but opens a wide door and second off, there is clearly the chance that those who oppose a resolution like this might get called ‘racist’ by today’s cancel culture ‘rage mob’, despite any given reasons. These are just the speculations of the author and time will tell how the situation plays itself out in the near and long term future.

One Twitter user was not happy in his response to the city of Asheville’s tweet about the proposal, he tweeted:

“I see why people are calling Asheville the San Francisco of North Carolina. Liberal politicians pandering to the mob by apologizing and giving reparations to blacks. Well, I feel like as a Jewish person, I have been treated unfairly at times. Do I get an apology and money too?” See tweet:

The ACLU of North Carolina has been trumpeting information about it as well, which isn’t too surprising:

“TAKE ACTION: Community members in #AVL are calling on their city council to take action on reparations for Asheville’s Black residents. Send your city council member a message in support:” See tweet:
