It appears that US House Rep Eric Swalwell has had at least some involvement with a Chinese operative who apparently slept with at least two Mayors to try to get political gain. Donald Trump Jr. is claiming that Swalwell slept with the operative but it appears that claim is unproven at this time.
Nevertheless, this raises credibility doubts about Swalwell, who was named Chairman of the House Intelligence Subcommittee. Trump Jr. tweeted:
“So Rep Swalwell who spent years saying I was an agent of Russia was literally sleeping with a Chinese spy at the time. You can’t make this stuff up. How can this compromised individual/moron continue to sit on an intelligence committee?”

Axios reported that Beijing has used operatives such as the aforementioned one to try to gain access and influence US politics, reporting in part:
A suspected Chinese intelligence operative developed extensive ties with local and national politicians, including a U.S. congressman, in what U.S. officials believe was a political intelligence operation run by China’s main civilian spy agency between 2011 and 2015, Axios found in a year long investigation.
It appears the woman’s name was Christine Fang. Although it is not believed she successfully received any classified information, this development reveals possible chinks in the armor of US intel based on how easy it apparently was for Fang to involve herself with so many different people.
Axios, a left leaning publication, reported that Swalwell was one of the most significant targets of Fang’s operation. She took part in fundraising activity for his 2014 re-election campaign for one thing. She also reportedly helped place at least one of his interns.
Amid a 2015 investigation it appears Swalwell cut ties, and has not officially been charged with wrongdoing. This does raise questions about his and other politician’s abilities to vet people to make sure they aren’t foreign nationals looking for classified data from the US.
Should Swalwell be removed from his committee? That will be up to his peers to question. More details here. Swalwell has been one of the Democrats who led the charge to try and spread dirt about President Trump during his first term in office and has spread the Russian election meddling theories along with US House Rep Adam Schiff, also a California Democrat.
