House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) plans to send impeachment articles to the U.S. Senate Monday. this comes after outrage erupted from mostly Democrats and some Republicans in the House and Senate from mostly Trump supporters sieging the U.S. Capitol building a couple of weeks ago.
Democrats have blamed President Trump for this action although he never told his supporters specifically to break the law or do anything violent. They didn’t like that he rallied them and they didn’t think his initial condemnations were strong enough.
This is apparently why they are charging him with inciting a riot. The charges will be brought to the Senate despite former President Donald Trump not even being in office. They probably want to hurt him and his supporters even more, and make sure Trump doesn’t run again, for anything.
Donald Trump is in a tough spot. Meanwhile, Senate Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) claims that the trial against Trump will be fair.
PBS reported in part:
“There will be a trial,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in making the announcement Friday. “It will be a full trial, it will be a fair trial.”
Trump is the first president to be twice impeached and the first to face a trial after leaving office.
While the transmission of the article launches the trial proceedings, the schedule ahead remains uncertain as the Senate, now in Democratic control, is also working to swiftly confirm President Joe Biden’s Cabinet nominees and tackle the new administration’s legislative priorities.
Biden says the Senate can do both and Schumer said he also speaking to Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell about the “timing and duration” of the proceedings ahead.
“Senate Republicans strongly believe we need a full and fair process,” McConnell said after Schumer spoke. On Thursday he proposed delaying the start of Trump’s trial to February to give the former president time to prepare and review his case. Trump is still assembling his legal team.
It will be interesting to see if Republicans like Josh Hawley (MO) will be able to speak in the Senate trial, and if they will bring up Democrat rioting. Although Democrats didn’t breach the U.S. Capitol, they did riot for months on end, and Vice President Kamala Harris raised money for some protesters to be bailed out.
Some may try to argue that she was only supporting the non-violent summer rioters involved in Black Lives Matter, and not the violent ones or Antifa. But Harris has not gone out of her way to clarify that to the extent that most Americans are clear on her intent in our view.
Many other Democrats have been shy to condemn left-wing riots and violence. Will the Republicans roll over or highlight this when the Senate trial happens? Of course, we would never promote violence from either side at Media Right News. We do think it’s applicable to point out the left doesn’t seem to care as much when it’s done by leftists in our perspective.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Senate trial, as it is reported that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has asked for impeachment to be delayed until February to give Trump more time to prepare his defense.
This is ironic since McConnell has also blamed Trump in part for the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol building. Mitch often tries to play both sides, and many are beginning to see through him. President Trump hasn’t been perfect, but it’s tough to believe he would ever want to see any Americans hurt, or break the law in our opinion.
It’s also hard to believe Schumer actually wants a fair trial but time will tell how things go. It is clear to bring more attention to Donald Trump and anger from his supporters during a time when President Biden is claiming to want unity. Meanwhile, Biden is supporting the impeachment and undoing many of Trump’s actions while president to the dismay of 74 million Americans.
It’s sad that the country is so divided and we hope that someday things get better. That being said, the political drama is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. Thank you for following us and stay tuned.
