MTG Urges Opposition to the ‘BLM/ANTIFA Defund the Police Bill’ That Seeks To Ban Facial Recognition

Texas House Rep Sheila Lee Jackson announced today that she will be presenting the “George Floyd Justice in Policing Act” before the U.S. House Rules Committee today.

The bill seeks to ban chokeholds, carotid holds and no-knock warrants at the federal level as well as prohibit racial and religious profiling, and mandate training.

The bill would also eliminate qualified immunity for law enforcement, establish national standards to operate police departments, and ban facial recognition technology.

U.S. House Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has been leading the charge against the bill, tweeting several times, mostly recently, urging supporters to call their Congressman to “OPPOSE the BLM / ANTIFA Defund the Police Bill.”

Earlier this morning, Greene said, “This week Democrats will be trying to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.”

“They will say this is in the name of racial justice, but this bill actually castrates police and stops them from bringing justice for victims of crimes, and creates lawlessness in America,” Greene explained.

U.S. House Rep Thomas Massie (R-KY) also tweeted out against the bill and said that he would be voting “no” on “H.R. 1280, aka the ‘George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021.'”

Massie believes it “expands the size and scope of the federal government while violating the 9th and 10th Amendments to the Constitution and spending money we don’t have.”

President Biden, Vice President Harris, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and U.S. House Rep Eric Swalwell (D-CA) have all tweeted out in favor of the bill.
