In a testy exchange today with a reporter after a briefing this afternoon, President Biden insisted that there was no crisis at the border and that it would be handled.
In a clip of the exchange, the reporter asks Biden, who is flanked by Vice President Harris, “Did you receive a briefing about the border today?”
Biden responds, “Yes,” and begins to walk away as the reporter then asks, “What did you learn?”
In an attempt to end the conversation, Biden responds simply “A lot,” as he continues to head for the exit.
Before the president reaches the door, the reporter gets in one last question and asks, “Is there a crisis at the border, sir?”
Biden replies, almost inaudibly, “No, we’ll be able to handle it.”

The meeting reportedly outlined the need for 20,000 beds to shelter an expected crush of child migrants crossing the southern border.
Axios called the rapid influx of unaccompanied children the administration’s first new crisis.
They reported that a presentation created by the Domestic Policy Council spelled out the dimensions with nearly 40 slides full of charts and details.
Yesterday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas echoed Biden and said from the White House podium that the current situation is not a crisis.
Mayorkas raised eyebrows as he said, “We are not saying don’t come, we are saying don’t come now because we will be able to deliver a safe and orderly process to them as quickly as possible.”
