29 year old Dejywan R. Floyd allegedly experienced a road rage incident while driving in his home state of North Carolina. Julie Eberly was the unfortunate shooting victim of this incident, and was tragically killed.
Eberly, a mother of six, was trying to enjoy her wedding anniversary with her husband, Ryan. They were heading to Hilton Head Island innocently enough. I’m sure the last thing she, her husband, or their six kids expected was that she’d be tragically shot and killed by this man as is alleged by reports.
Dan Lyman posted about it on Twitter, alerting his followers to the tragic occurence, posting the picture sourced from Fox 10 Phoenix.
“Dejywan R. Floyd, 29, is suspected of murdering Julie Eberly, a 47-year-old mother of six from Manheim, PA, during a ‘road rage incident.’ Eberly was “driving with her husband, Ryan, to celebrate their wedding anniversary on Hilton Head Island.” is how Lyman captioned his tweet as can be seen below:

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office reported that the 29 year old Floyd was arrested Thursday morning. The charges are first degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied property. This happened in the city of Lumberton.
Reports are that the two parties vehicles came in close contact during a merging incident on the road. Floyd was not immediately apprehended. Eberly was rushed to a local hospital where she tragically died from her wounds. Deputies shared an image of the suspected car Floyd was in, and reportedly offered a $10,000 reward in an effort to get locals in the community to help identify the alleged murderer.
Luckily, Ryan was not hurt, although he and their six kids will now have to experience the lifelong pain that will come from this tragedy. Floyd was apprehended around 12:30 AM at an apartment complex. Apparently, he thought he was going to be able to just shoot and kill someone and then get off scot-free.
He was initially held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond. Fox 10 reported in part:
“This was an innocent family from Pennsylvania headed to the beach for a vacation,” Wilkins said last week. “Thankfully they had left their six children at home with grandparents but now these kids have to live with the thought of their mother being murdered in such a cowardly and senseless way. My heart goes out to this family and I ask that everyone reading this stop and pray for this entire family.”
Sheriff Wilkins had previously posted to Facebook on March 26th:
Good afternoon everyone. Just wanted to keep everyone updated as we continue to search for clues leading to the identity of the coward suspect that shot and killed Julie Eberly yesterday along I95 in Lumberton. Homicide Detectives have worked non stop and are continuing their efforts to locate video footage and are currently reviewing hours of footage as I write this. Other investigative techniques are taking place to identify the vehicle and driver as well.
I personally met her husband Ryan and his parents this morning. The parents arrived in town late last night to accompany their son. As devastated as they are, they were so appreciative of the outpouring of support they have received not only from their home community in Pennsylvania but our community as well. Ryan’s dad even spoke of the staff at Comfort Suites in Lumberton coming up to him this morning and saying a prayer for the family. He also explained they had to tell the kids of this tragic event yesterday. What’s really sad is that Ryan and his wife celebrated their wedding anniversary the day before yesterday and were taking this trip to Hilton Head Island as a get away. The picture speaks a thousand words. The hurt in his eyes and voice this morning spoke even more.
I say all of that to say this. “Thank You Robeson County”. It literally brings tears to my eyes to know that you have come forward in such a way to want to assist this family especially as they are from out of state. That alone speaks volumes. I along with others here at the office have been contacted hundreds upon hundreds of times since last night asking where to send money. The family at first didn’t want anything but were appreciative. I asked that they reconsider and they did. Please do what you can to assist this family by clicking the link below as they await Julie to be sent back home knowing they have to set up funeral arrangements and prepare for a new life without a daughter, mom, grandmother and wife.
I need your help. Let’s show others that we won’t tolerate this. This murderous coward must be caught. Please come forward with information that I know someone has. Or better yet, be a man and turn yourself in as I am sure you will read this. God won’t forget and we won’t give up on bringing you to justice. Thanks everyone, be blessed and have a safe weekend.

We can only hope, that if Floyd is convicted of this crime that is being alleged against him, he is held fully accountable to the fullest extent of the law, and that other law abiding travelers stay safe out there. Fox 10 also reported:
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help other families and charities that she supported.
“We want to raise funds to honor Julie and her life,” a relative posted. “Julie was a beautiful, loving, generous, and giving person. We will be using the funds to help others and to give to the organizations that were close to her heart.”
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
