Anti-White Sign at Missouri Popeyes Restaurant Under Investigation, Police Deem it a Prank

Police in Lake St. Louis, Missouri are investigating an anti-white sign that was posted in the drive-thru lane of a Popeyes restaurant, which caused the business to close on Wednesday.

Lt. Pat Doering with the Lake St. Louis Police Department said that investigators are pretty confident that someone other than a Popeyes’ employee posted the sign.

The investigators have reportedly deemed it a prank and are checking to see if there’s any connection to recent vandalism at the restaurant..

The sign read that, “Effective 6-1-21 this restaurant is under new management and will reserve the right to refuse service to white people. We apologize for any inconvenience. Signed, general manager, Mason.”

While the restaurant was closed on Wednesday due to the backlash, there was a steady stream of vehicles driving through the drive-thru lane looking for the sign and worried about its potential impact.

The manager of the restaurant told KMOV News 4 that surveillance video confirmed that the person who put up the sign was not an employee.

Kats Berryhill, a woman interviewed by KMOV News 4 who came to the restaurant looking for the sign, said “That’s good for the Popeyes, they didn’t do that, but a community you shouldn’t do anything like that that’s going to stir up more problems.”

Photos of the sign were spreading widely across social media in St. Charles County and beyond and are authentic according to Angela, another woman interviewed by KMOV News 4, who saw the same letter when she was in lunch on Monday.

Karen, who was also interviewed by KMOV News 4, said that she believes “What it does is, it incites more hate.”

A picture of the photo was shared to a local community page and with the message that “if you’re Caucasian, you may not get chicken at the restaurant.”
