U.S. House Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) who is on the House Select Committee to investigate the events of January 6th in Washington D.C. at the Capitol, is after former President Donald Trump. Clyburn while gearing up for the investigation that some have called the next “witch hunt” against not only Donald Trump, but his supporters, claims Trump himself may be called to testify. In our view, the Democrats would make a mistake if they did this.
This would be putting former President Trump in the catbird seat to ask who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt, and many other critical questions, in front of the American people. Donald Trump, if called to testify, would not only have a large audience that social media companies have sought to take away from him, but would have plenty of time to prepare his statements and answers as well.
No press is bad press for Donald Trump some may think. Clyburn commented that it is not a sure thing, depending on what information they are able to gather from other sources. “Oh, if it comes to that, they should go wherever the facts lead. They may be able to get what they want and need without him testifying,” he said. The Hill reported in part:
On Wednesday, the House voted to create a select committee that would investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. Only two GOP House members — Reps. Liz Cheney (Wyo.) and Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) — sided with their Democratic colleagues in the 222-190 vote.
The Democrats claim the committee is bipartisan simply because Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney are on it. These are both anti-Trump Republicans though, and many would say that they are closer to Democrats at this point in history. Time will tell if Trump has anything to say to Clyburn, or if he stays quiet during the speculation period of whether or not he will have to testify.
Even though Trump’s tweets and Facebook posts on January 6th that got him suspended were a bit cryptic, they were enough to get him banned, and in our view, the committee will bring them up and try to prove that Trump encouraged people to riot on January 6th.
So far there is no committee being put together that we are aware of by the Democrats to investigate Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots that ripped through our nation and caused potentially billions of dollars in damages. President Biden has issued support for the rioting group called Black Lives Matter by kneeling for them at a rally in the past during his campaign.
