‘Duck’ Brand Tape Promotes Dress Celebrating the Desecration of Robert E Lee Monument in Virginia for Prom Contest

“Duck” brand duct tape is promoting a prom dress contest. One of the finalists is promoting a dress that is inspired by graffiti done by Antifa and Black Lives Matter rioters on a Richmond Robert E. Lee statue that Virginia Democrats are trying to desecrate further and remove.

Many supporters of this monument are already having to come to terms with the fact that it will likely come down under the continued Democrat regime that currently rules Virginia.

Regardless of what side you may fall on regarding this topic, anyone can agree the further division on this topic does not unite Americans but causes even more anger and political tension. The girl below and her parents apparently don’t understand that or don’t care, we’re not sure which.

“I decided to create a dress inspired by the spray painted Robert E. Lee Statue on Monument Avenue in Richmond, Virginia. The monument embodies the clash of old ways and new ideas, so I embraced these conflicts in the design of my dress. The hoop skirt and corset style bodice are reminiscent of the antebellum era, while the brilliant colors of the graffiti on the skirt represent the modern era. The past and present merge in the front of the dress, but the back is left empty for the future generations. The chain motif on the bodice and the padlock necklace represent slavery and the continued suppression of people of color”:

A Facebook post encouraging people to “vote” for the dress on the “Duck” brand website reads:

“A very dear friend (Giles F.) created a prom dress out of Duck Tape. Yes, you read that correctly. And it is amazing. And she is one of five finalists in the nationwide Duck Tape Prom Dress contest which awards a high school student $10,000 in scholarship money. NOW SHE NEEDS YOUR VOTE! Please click below to vote, and come back every day until July 14. Giles F was inspired by graffiti on the statue of Robert E. Lee on Monument Avenue here in Richmond. I am in awe of her creativity, maturity, and commitment to social justice. TBH, all of the dresses are amazing. But please vote for Giles.”

Update, 2:15 PM ET: It appears that after our story, the Facebook post may have been removed or the privacy setting changed from public to private:

The Virginia Flaggers, an organization dedicated to the preservation and honor of Confederate history, had this to say:

“Does this mean the dress is filled with cop hating profanities? How disgusting to encourage young ladies to imitate vandals and rioters destroying war memorials.”
