The new Republican Governor of Virginia, Glenn Youngkin tweeted out today:
“As a result of the inclement weather, and in an effort to keep Virginians off the roads, we are postponing today’s open house at the Governor’s mansion. Please be safe and for more travel updates check here:”

Some Virginia Republicans, although Youngkin isn’t everything they wanted politically, may say “the adults are back in charge”.
This was following a botched snowstorm incident a couple of weeks ago that Virginia drivers didn’t have a proper warning for in the eyes of some, and left many stranded on the highway for many hours. The official Virginia Governor’s Twitter account also tweeted this a couple of days ago:
“The current forecast predicts significant winter weather conditions this weekend. Consider staying home unless travel is absolutely necessary. @VaDOT is preparing and has begun treating the roads for your safety. We will continue to monitor the conditions and keep you updated.” (Sidenote, it’s hard to say when Twitter changed the official Governor’s account from Northam to Youngkin exactly)

Some tried to blame Governor Youngkin then when Kaine got stuck in traffic, but he was not yet the Governor, and former Governor Ralph Northam (D) was furious that Republicans called him out for the traffic jam. U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D), who used to be a Governor of Virginia too, was also one of the people stuck on the highway.
We reported on this previously here:
It is clear that Governor Youngkin is taking a careful approach as it pertains to snowstorms and highway safety so as not to repeat mistakes by predecessors. Although Northam may claim it wasn’t his fault, it’s all in the eye of the Virginian and voter at the end of the day.
Update:
If you have to be on the road, make sure you are prepared. Slow down, use your headlights, and monitor road conditions here: https://t.co/9hsXSb821L
