Bill Barr Takes Swipe at Trump’s Age, Tells Martha MacCallum He’d Vote For Him But Would Rather He Not Be the Nominee

In a clip of an interview by Fox News’ Martha MacCallum of former Attorney General Bill Barr, he discusses his views on Donald Trump potentially running for president again and whether or not he would vote for him.

Barr clarified that he believes it would be a “grave mistake” if Trump was the nominee in 2024 but that it would be hard for him to conceive that he wouldn’t vote for the Republican nominee.

“I think the greatest threat to the country is the progressive agenda, it’s dominating the Democratic party,” Barr explained.

MacCallum then asked, “Is there someone out there that you would see… you said you think it should be someone younger who you would want to see be the nominee?”

“I think the Republicans are blessed with a lot of qualified people and many of them would be great presidents,” Barr explained.

Barr then described Joe Biden as a “pre-baby boomer” (he was born in 1942, before the end of World War II) and that the current occupant of the White House was an “old” 78, although he was unsure if he had the age right (Biden is 79).”

As Peter Beinart noted in a 2019 article, the first post–baby-boom generation, the so-called Generation X (those born from 1965 through 1980), appears to be in danger of not having a president at all.

Barr pointed out that the last four presidents prior to Biden were from the baby boomer generation and so “it’s time for other people to step up” in his view.

When asked by MacCallum what he plans to do next, Barr said that he plans to “have fun” and “play bagpipes.”
