Jussie Smollett Melts Down after Sentencing, Keeps Repeating ‘I’m Not Suicidal’

On Thursday, Jussie Smollet was sentenced for the hate crime hoax he reported to Chicago police in January of 2019.

Smollett was sentenced to 150 days in jail, and 30 months of probation. He was also ordered to pay $120,000 in restitution to the city of Chicago and fined an additional $25,000. After the judge sentenced him, things became theatrical.

In the video below, you can see Smollett’s immediate reaction. Smollett pans the courtroom while he announces with his mask pulled down, “I am not suicidal”. Facing one of his lawyers he gets louder, “I am NOT Suicidal! I am INNOCENT! and I am not suicidal”.

Smollett then makes a fist with one finger pointing down rapidly pulses while loudly exclaiming, “If I did this”. Smollett then stands up and continues, “then it means that I stuck my fist in the fears of Black Americans in this country for over 400 years and the fears of the LGBT community”.

He turns to the judge and puts his hands together in a prayer stance to address the judge, “Your Honor, I respect you and I respect the jury but I did not do this. And I am not suicidal.” Turning toward the cameras he continues, “And if anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself. And you must all know that.” Looking back to the judge he again says, “I respect you, your honor, I respect your decision.”

Shaking his head while saying, “jail time” he claps his hands together and fixes his jacket, and repeats, “I am not suicidal”.

While being escorted from the courtroom, Smollett raises his fist in front of the cameras. When reaching the door, it appears that Smollett turns back toward the courtroom and shouts something.

Smollett was found guilty of 5 of the 6 charges brought against him regarding the hate crime hoax. The former “Empire” actor staged an anti-gay, racist attack against himself and lied to Chicago police about it. He paid two brothers, who had worked as extras on the set of “Empire”, to fake the attack. He had the brothers yell racial slurs at him as well as saying he was in “MAGA Country”.

Before Smollett was found out to be lying, many on the left ran to his side to support him and condemn the “MAGA” movement. This scandal has been dragged out over the past three years.

The Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, who dropped charges against Smollett, called the court proceedings, “mob justice” and “kangaroo prosecution”. The case was assigned to Special Prosecutor Dan Webb after Foxx’s move.

Foxx seems to many as trying to divert attention away from why her office acted in such a manner and dropped the charges. We will see if Foxx faces any real accountability for her actions.
