Thanks to three Republican U.S. Senators and at least one moderate Democrat (two Democrats took their time deciding), Ketanji Brown Jackson has been appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
See below:
This news came after a 53-47 vote and was largely expected. Many Republicans had concerns for Jackson’s leniency towards certain sex offenders, while others were concerned about her lack of ability to define ”woman”. These concerns by most Republicans were among many others.
There was also concern that Jackson wasn’t chosen solely based on merit, but on gender and race as well. This seemed especially ironic to some due to her lack of ability to define woman.
Jackson is probably more radical than her predecessor. Nevertheless, technically the balance of power is the same, although Jackson is younger than Chief Justice Breyer.
Time will tell what ramifications today’s predictable news will have.
