Report: Fines ‘Pile Up’ for Taxes Owed on ‘Defunct Business’ Owned By AOC, Who Refuses to Pay and is ‘Contesting’ the Matter

Progressives’ favorite ‘squad’ and U.S. House Representative member Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) has an outstanding tax warrant in the state she represents.

AOC has failed to pay taxes owed on a now defunct business she started in 2012. She currently owes $2,461 after all the fees have piled on after her failure to pay her tax bill.

New York State originally filed the tax warrant in July of 2017, requesting payment of $1,618 in unpaid corporate taxes.

According to the NYPost, AOC had originally pledged to pay the bill in 2019. This however did not happen and instead AOC has decided to contest the tax bill.

Brook Avenue Press a children’s publishing house, was stared in 2012 by AOC. The business was dissolved in 2016 and a year later the tax warrant was issued. This came two months after AOC launched her primary campaign against former U.S. Representative Joe Crowley (D-NY).

Last year in September AOC wore a white dress to the Met Gala, which had red words across the back that read “Tax the Rich”. It seems ironic for a member of Congress to make such a public statement all while failing to pay her own tax bill.

This probably doesn’t come as a surprise as many in Congress seem to view themselves above the laws they are to legislate, many members of Congress, present and past, have had tax issues. There have also been many accused of insider trading.

For now, AOC is avoiding paying the tax bill it will continue to grow with fees and fines until it is paid or if it goes how she would like eliminated through contesting it.
