Young Mother Beheaded in Silicon Valley in Broad Daylight, Police had Previous Contact with Suspect but Details are Scant

Thursday news broke that a woman was beheaded by a man with a sword just before noon on a residential street in San Carlos Califonia in front of multiple witnesses.

The young mother of two was beheaded during a domestic dispute on Thursday. Police had been called on the pair multiple times before this fatal altercation. According to law enforcement, the victim had a restraining order against suspect Jose Solano Landaeta since April.

Investigative reporter Dan Noyes reported on the incident on Twitter.

Noyes started with:

“BEHEADING INVESTIGATION: Lt. Eamonn Allen of San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office short on details: no specifics on TRO or domestic violence calls to address. “Stabbing instrument” used in crime still missing. Kids not present at time of killing Law enforcement sources tell me two children were home at the time. Allen says deputies found victim in the middle of the street and “were a little upset”; being offered peer counseling. Suspect returned ten minutes after deputies arrived and was arrested.”

After digging into the incident and the suspect Noyes followed up with more information.

“2 of 2 CPS took custody of 7 and 1-year-old girls. 1 dog and two cats in the house. Suspect 33-year-old Jose Solano Landaeta detained at 12:02pm; law enforcement sources say victim had restraining order against him since April. He has criminal priors.”

Another Twitter user askes Noyes about the restraining order and shares a screen shot of Landaeta’s priors.

“This is terrible beyond words. Was restraining order issued in San Mateo County? Does not appear in San Mateo County court website. Also, suspect does not appear on San Mateo County jail inmate locator. Is San Mateo County covering up something?”

Child Protective Services took custody of the children who were, “scared to come… wanted their mom.”

Lieutenant Eamon Allen gave a press conference on the incident Thursday afternoon. He told reporters police were flagged down about 11:50 on Magnolia and Laurel about an “assault in progress”.

When police arrived at the scene the woman was already deceased in the street. The suspect returned to the scene shortly after police arrived. Lt. Allen confirmed the woman had been killed with a “stabbing instrument”. He let reporters know this was an isolated incident and that there was no ongoing threat to the community.

He then explained they would not be releasing the victim’s identity until the family had been notified and asked that anyone with information regarding the incident get in contact with the sheriff’s office. He then took questions from reporters.

According to Lt. Allen, they do not believe that the children witnessed the event. Lt. Allen shared that the pair were in a relationship. The witnesses, as well as the officers that worked the scene, are being provided with counseling and peer support.

The disturbing nature of the crime has many unsettled and is one of the reasons officers, as well as witnesses, are being provided with support. Violent crime across the nation seems to be increasing as we hear about horrific crimes every day. Memphis TN was in the news for the abduction and murder of a teacher and then shortly thereafter a man went on a shooting spree killing multiple people.
