Longtime CA Sen Dianne Feinstein Won’t Seek Re-Election, Opens Seat for Adam Schiff and Katie Porter Along With other Possible Dems to Battle it Out

Longtime U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) today announced that she won’t seek re-election, opening the seat for Dem U.S. House Reps Adam Schiff and Katie Porter along with other possible Dems to battle it out.

Feinstein issued a statement where she said, “I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024 but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends.”

“Even with a divided Congress, we can still pass bills that will improve lives. Each of us was sent here to solve problems,” Feinstein explained.

Feinstein added, “That’s what I’ve done for the last 30 years, and that’s what I plan to do for the next two years. My thanks to the people of California for allowing me to serve them.”

Schiff appears to have the edge at this point in the battle to take over Feinstein’s seat, as he has already been endorsed by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

As Pelosi said in a recent statement, if Senator Feinstein decides not to run, “I will be supporting House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff, who knows well the nexus between a strong democracy and a strong economy.”

Schiff reacted to the news in a tweet, “Dianne Feinstein is one of the finest legislators we’ve ever known.”

“From the torture report, a dogged pursuit of gun safety, and championship of LGBTQ+ rights, her body of work defines her legacy. We are so grateful for her ongoing leadership,” Schiff insisted.

Porter issued a tweet of her own where she said, “Senator Dianne Feinstein has had a remarkable career serving the people of California.”

“She created a path for women in politics that I am proud to follow. I thank the Senator for her leadership and appreciate all that she has accomplished for our state,” Porter added.
