Joy Reid Echoes AOC, Rails Against Christian Themed Super Bowl Ads

Apparently, MSNBC’s Joy Reid didn’t really enjoy the Super Bowl ads this year, but has taken the time to single out a pair of ads from the “He Gets Us” campaign and rant about them.

The campaign purchased two ads that called on people to be “childlike” and “look past our differences”. They both shared the message, “Jesus loved the people we hate”.

Reid then moved to target those behind the “He Gets Us” campaign. She explained, “It’s part of a 100 million dollar campaign to help promote Christianity and build the brand of Jesus according to its backers.” She snarked, “Because his brand has really just never been built before.”

She later echoed a similar sentiment to what U.S. House Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) shared on Twitter Sunday. “I think it is fair to say, Jesus Christ wouldn’t spend millions of dollars on television ads promoting his image.”

AOC shared on Twitter, “Something tells me Jesus would *not* spend millions of dollars on Super Bowl ads to make fascism look benign”.

During her rant, Reid told her viewers that Alliance Defending Freedom which is connected to the ads is “designated as a LGBTQ hate group,” and that they “led fights against abortion”.

Reid claimed that because of this, the “He Gets Us” campaign “it’s not as apolitical” as it presents itself. While her words were slightly softer than AOC’s who called it fascism the messaging was the same.
