OPINION:
Now that Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and the Democrats in the House Judiciary Committee have voted unanimously to move forward with a full House vote on two articles of impeachment against President Trump, Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is sounding off.
By the sounds of it, Schumer knows that unlike in the Democrat-controlled House, the deck will be stacked against him in the Senate and they are already playing what cards they have. White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham took notice of some comments made by Schumer this morning and took time to make a tweet slamming his “laughable” comments.
In the eyes of the Republicans at least, the Democrats have been anything but fair in the process of trying to impeach President Trump so far, and Grisham wanted to highlight that. Schumer stated “Let us hope that fairness will prevail”, and Grisham retorted: “a laughable quote from @SenSchumer this AM….after the dems release an “impeachment report” in the middle of the night.”
The process has indeed been stacked against President Trump thus far, with Adam Schiff (D-CA) handpicking the witnessing in the House Intelligence Committee hearings earlier this month, and many pundits and politicians finding Trump guilty first and asking questions later. Grisham goes on in her tweet: “Thankfully the people of this country continue to see the partisan sham that this is.” See the full tweet below:

Indeed, Grisham may have made a fair point, as a recent USA Today piece shows shocking poll numbers putting President Trump AHEAD of Democrat presidential contenders for the 2020 campaign. USA Today reports:
President Donald Trump, the first modern president to face impeachment during his first term in the White House, now leads his top Democratic rivals in his bid for a second, a new USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll finds.
The national survey, taken as the House of Representatives planned an impeachment vote and the Senate a trial, showed Trump defeating former Vice President Joe Biden by 3 percentage points, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders by 5 points, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren by 8 points.
In hypothetical head-to-head contests, Trump also led South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg by 10 points and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg by 9.
Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell has said that impeachment, once it makes its way to the U.S. Senate, will be dead on arrival. But this won’t stop the Democrats in the Senate from trying to make as much of a spectacle as they can in the mean time. They will likely be calling some witnesses such as Trump’s OMB Director Mick Mulvaney, who the Republicans might deny, while Republicans, on the other hand, could possibly call witnesses who were denied by Adam Schiff in the House hearings, such as the Bidens.
Meanwhile many Americans on both sides of the political spectrum likely eagerly await an end to all this impeachment madness so that Congress can get back to work lowering drug prices, stopping illegal immigration, and making the United States a better place for the people who voted them into office in the first place.
