Actor Rainn Wilson Surprisingly Calls Out Hollywood’s Apparent ‘Anti-Christian’ Bias

Writer, director, and actor Rainn Wilson shared he believes there is an anti-Christian bias in Hollywood. He used an example of a character from ‘The Last of Us’. He then asked if there could be a loving and kind Bible-reading preacher on a show.

“I do think there is an anti-Christian bias in Hollywood. As soon as the David character in “The Last of Us” started reading from the Bible I knew that he was going to be a horrific villain. Could there be a Bible-reading preacher on a show who is actually loving and kind?”

David is a character in the HBO series ‘The Last of Us’. He is the leader of a group of people in the show. He is depicted as a pedophile preacher who uses the bible to control his subordinates.

Wilson’s post has been seen by more than 5 million people with over 5 thousand replies.

Some scrambled to give Wilson examples of Christians being portrayed in a positive light.

Another user pointed to the TV series “7th Heaven” as a positive example.

“The only one I can recall is “7th Heaven”… it dealt with a preacher’s family dealing with real-world problems. It gained a lot of popularity. Of course the actor was later found to be a deviant IRL and it made big news. So for me, the memory of his character is now stained.”

‘The Last of Us’ is based on a video game. One Twitter user points out that in the game the character David never quoted the bible, giving Wilson’s argument more fuel.

Some think that Hollywood’s tropes of Christians seem to mostly send the message that Christians are villains. Wilson works in Hollywood and says that it is there in his view.
