Although it’s too soon to say, there’s nothing like the ability of well-connected New York politicians to take everything thrown at them and still remain politically relevant in our opinion. This seems to go for both parties, although sometimes political allegations are not credible, while in other cases, they are very credible.
The left-leaning (in our opinion) website “The Daily Beast” reports that disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who resigned over sexual harassment allegations, is eyeing a major comeback. Only time will tell if this is something that will be able to ultimately manifest itself.
What we think is an interesting plot twist though, is the fact that New York’s Attorney General, Letitia James, has been one of those who went all out to hold Cuomo accountable for the allegations. Although Cuomo is also an anti-Trump Democrat, he may have found a common enemy with former President Donald Trump in Letitia James.
We aren’t suggesting there will be some kind of meeting between the two to strategize, but it certainly makes for an odd crossing of paths potential at some point. In our view, of course, we feel the allegations against Cuomo are credible, whereas the ones against Donald Trump may be harder to prove, and we have the right to these views.
However, if James takes on too much at one time here, we think she may be biting off more than she can chew. Whether you like Cuomo or Trump, or neither, they are both well-connected politicians and no one knows what connections they may have as it pertains to people who may defend them, even if they aren’t traditional supporters.
In fact, there is even speculation that Cuomo wants to run for Attorney General himself, although it’s hard for us to imagine a scenario in which he’d garner enough support to do so. We don’t think he’d be much friendlier to the Trumps than James either if he did pull off such a magic trick, but he may have other priorities, such as rebuilding his reputation. The Daily Beast reported in part:
Sources close to the ex-governor told the Journal that he was lying in wait for the moment to make the right speech or appearance to usher him back into the limelight. A crucial part of that game plan apparently includes calling up former allies and political heavyweights to badmouth his accusers and state Attorney General Letitia James, whose investigation into the scandal concluded that Cuomo had sexually harassed 11 women. People close to the disgraced Democrat told the Journal that hasn’t dampened his spirits, and he may be weighing a bid for attorney general this year. A spokesperson for Cuomo denied he was looking to run for James’ job, saying in part, “[W]e can’t help it if some people are still fixated on us.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump and his family continue to push back against James against allegations of possible fraud in New York. We don’t know if any of these will manifest into real charges if any at all, or if it’s just more politically motivated fodder for James to keep her voter base happy.
