We reported last week that Arkansas GOP Governor Asa Hutchinson, who vetoed a transgender surgery bill, was a frequent participant on Sunday MSM shows.
Today, Hutchinson appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” and was led into a question by the host Jake Tapper, who asked him about former President Trump’s comments last night.
Hutchinson said that “anything that’s divisive is a concern.”
“In some ways it’s not a big deal, what he said, but at the same time it draws attention,” Hutchinson continued, mentioning the slim numbers in Washington where Republicans are in the minority.
Tapper then blamed Trump for “discouraging” people from voting in Georgia, accusing him of contributing to the Senate losses.
Hutchinson then went on and echoed the words that he said to Tucker Carlson on Fox News after his decision to veto the transgender bill.
“This is about the future of the party,” Hutchinson insisted, asking, “Are we going to express ourselves in intolerant ways?”
Tapper later claimed that there were no instances of transgender youth causing any trouble on the athletic field in Arkansas.
Hutchinson said that Republicans need to show “compassion and tolerance” on such issues.
Towards the end of the interview, Tapper asked Hutchinson if he was still considering a presidential run, to which Hutchinson replied, that a presidential run is “too far off even to consider at this point.”
